Jon Alexander

I’m Jon Alexander, and I’ve been working with Eurostar on the Tri CityAthlon for a while now, at, their advertising agency. Even now I’ve left, I’m continuing to work with the company on specific projects, especially when they relate to the two great passions in my life: sport and the environment. Back in the day, I rowed for Great Britain at Junior and Under 23 level, and for Cambridge University, but although that was the closest I’ve come to world class competition, it’s not what I’m most proud of. Last year, I combined my two passions to complete the world’s first Eco Ironman triathlon. If you don’t know what an Ironman is, it’s basically a monster triathlon – 3.8km swim, 180km bike, and then a marathon! I trained on a vegetarian diet, travelled by train (thanks Eurostar!), experimented with eco-friendly equipment like a bamboo bike – and completed the event in a very respectable 11 hours 32 minutes. You can find out more here. This experience made me realise just how powerful sport is in communicating important messages, so this year I’ve got a new plan, working with Nepalese runners to show that high performance running doesn’t have to be high impact. So while you lot are preparing for a triathlon, I’ll be getting ready for a 78km ultramarathon in the Swiss Alps – watch this space!
